Cannabis (THC) edibles are becoming increasingly popular among seniors and older stoners. For starters, they are discreet. It’s much easier to pop something in your mouth during lunch at the club with friends than it is to whip out your vape or continually go outside, without running out of excuses.
For older individuals who have never smoked or vaped in the past, taking a gummy or even THC in capsule form may seem less intimidating and more comfortable. Most seniors are taking a bunch of pills and supplements everyday anyway (for good or bad).
The obvious advice for any senior looking to experiment with thc edibles is to start with a very low dose. It may not be as easy to find as other milligram options, but try to locate a dispensary that carries a 2.5mg THC product. Most dispensary edibles are typically offered in either 5mg. or 10mg. doses (or more).
Another decision is the form factor of the edible. Gummies, brownies, mints, etc are one type of edible and cannabis capsules are (technically) another. The upside to seniors with capsules, mints or gummies is that the doses are pre-portioned. With some other THC edibles like cookies or brownies, you may have to split it to arrive at your desired dose, which can lead to confusion as to how much you’ve actually ingested or overindulgence.
It might also be prudent to stay away from liquids or any other product where the amount being consumed can not be easily determined. For example, there are cannabis drinks on the market that contain 100 mgs of THC. For most people, that amounts to 10+ servings. For someone not paying attention, they could drink much more than they are aware of and wind up on a seriously unpleasant magic carpet ride.
