Some people love to exercise and others hate it.
Relish or despise it, boosting your heart rate (through cardiovascular exercise) and engaging your muscles (via weight training) is important throughout life, including as we get older. Quality exercise can occur anywhere, including outdoors or at a gym. People that you know who are the healthiest are likely the least sedentary. For some folks, incorporating cannabis with exercising is a wonderful combination.
To be clear, it’s one thing to introduce some pre-workout THC into your system to “elevate” the quality of the experience, which we’ll discuss below. That, however is totally distinct from getting high to the point that you hurt yourself or others or just generally do something stupid.
Here are some of the reasons that people tend to enjoy mixing cannabis with exercise:
- Heightened Sensory Experience: Cannabis can heighten sensory perception, thus making your workout (and surroundings) seem more pleasurable.
- Better Focus: Lollygagging can often be misconstrued for exercise. Everyone’s seen the person at the gym who is much more concerned with socializing than raising their heart rate. A bit of THC may help you to amp up your routine and achieve more impressive fitness results.
- Pain Relief: Cannabis can have pain-relieving effects, which may make it easier for some individuals to exercise, especially those dealing with chronic pain or inflammation.
- Increased Motivation: If getting high increases the likelihood that you will get off the couch and break into a sweat, then that’s a beautiful rationale.
- Stress and Anxiety Reduction: Exercise is a known stress reliever. Adding in THC can lead to a more calming workout experience. Don’t confuse calm for relaxed though as the goal is to get sweaty.
- Better Recovery: Some folks find that cannabis helps with their post-exercise recovery by reducing muscle soreness.
Two of the greatest attributes in life are cannabis and exercise! Integrating these in a safe and consistent (working out at least several days a week) manner can be incredibly valuable for your heart, body and mind.
